WEATHER ADVISORY (Update #4: Wednesday, Nov. 9, 3 p.m.) – Tropical Storm Nicole

Due to the continued impact of Tropical Storm Nicole, SFBC classes and business operations are also canceled for Thursday, November 10. In observance of Veterans Day, we will be closed on Friday, November 11. We anticipate resuming classes and business operations as scheduled on Monday, November 14. 

As a result, the following also is in effect:

  • All events on all campuses are canceled for Wednesday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 10, including the Faculty Workshop.
  • The doctoral intensive will continue via Zoom for its Wednesday meeting.

Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to strengthen throughout the day as it approaches Florida’s east coast and could make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane.

There is increasing risk of damaging wind for much of South Florida beginning Wednesday. Excessive rainfall and flooding are possible over parts of the region both Wednesday and Thursday, with significant coastal impacts including high seas, rough surf and beach erosion throughout the remainder of the week.

Due to the projected path of Tropical Storm Nicole, SFBC&TS will suspend operations and all classes are canceled for Wednesday, Nov. 9.

A decision will be made at some point tomorrow regarding classes and operations for Thursday.

As a result, the following also is in effect:

  • All events on all campuses are canceled for Wednesday, Nov. 9, including the Faculty Workshop.
  • The doctoral intensive will continue via Zoom for its Wednesday meeting.
  • Essential personnel should communicate with their respective supervisors regarding reporting assignments for Wednesday, Nov. 9.

SFBC&TS is continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Nicole. As of 12 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to strengthen throughout the day as it approaches Florida’s east coast and could make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane. Our current area is under a hurricane watch.

Currently, there are no operational changes to the College & Seminary. All classes and events for today will continue as planned, including night classes. A decision will be made later this evening regarding classes and operations for tomorrow.

WEATHER ADVISORY (Update #1: Monday, Nov. 7, 5 p.m.) – Subtropical Storm Nicole

SFBC&TS is currently monitoring Subtropical Storm Nicole. Our current area is under a hurricane watch, which is issued when a storm containing winds of 74 mph or higher poses a possible threat to a specific region, generally within 48 hours.

Currently, there are no operational changes to the College & Seminary.

The system is forecast to approach South Florida by Wednesday morning, potentially making landfall late Wednesday night or early Thursday as a Category one hurricane, although it is too soon to determine exact timing, location and magnitude of any potential impact to the region. There is an increasing risk of at least tropical storm-force winds and flooding rainfall by Wednesday, with significant coastal impacts including high seas, rough surf, and beach erosion throughout the remainder of the week.
